I have been investigating the Red Pitaya board for the past few months and we've been very impressed with its accessibility and usefulness for research. I developed a really special feedback controller, and we are working on making a real-time quantum bit measurement system. In particular, unlike almost any other FPGA solution we've encountered, the Red Pitaya has allowed us to focus on the problems at hand rather than spending all of our time worrying about getting data in and out of the FPGA. This is especially hard to find in boards with fast A/D and D/A.
