How to start using Red Pitaya
Whilst the Red Pitaya STEMlab has a huge amount of functionality, it is very easy to set up and use. Instructions are available on the Red Pitaya website.
The following essential items needed to start are already included in each RedPitaya kits available from our WEB store:
5 V / 2 A micro USB power supply or 12 V / 1 A power adapter with jack connector,
4GB (up to 32GB) Class 10 micro SD card with pre-loaded Red Pitaya OS,
Ethernet cable.
Additional Required Items not supplied with the RedPitaya kits:
computer with internet browser (Chrome browser recommended),
router with DHCP server enabled and access to the internet.
There are several ways in which the STEMlab can be connected up, the most common is to plug it directly into the router that serves the computer or computers to be used. There are a few simple steps to follow:
First, ensure that the LAN network has its DHCP settings enabled - this should not be a major issue as this is the case in the majority of routers for local area networks.
Download and unzip the SD card image from Red Pitaya website depending on which model of STEMlab you have. Write the image onto an SD card.
Insert the programmed SD card provided with the kit into the SD card slot on the STEMlab.
Connect the STEMlab board to the router using the Ethernet cable supplied.
Connect the power supply to the Red Pitaya STEMlab board
Open the web browser and in the URL field type: rp-xxxxxx.local/ where xxxxxx is the number printed on the Ethernet connector on the STEMlab board. These numbers are the last 6 characters from MAC address of the board.
With the MAC address entered as above, the selection options will be presented for the different instruments available. Select the one required.
This completes the set-up for the STEMlab. It is now ready for use as the different instruments that are available.
